Liz So, I heard you inherited some money recently.
Charlie Yeah – that’s right. A great-aunt left me $20,000 in her will.
Liz Gosh! Have you decided what to do with it?
Charlie Well, I was going to invest in some stocks, but the market these days is so turbulent, I decided against it.
Liz Yeah – the stock market isn’t for the fainthearted!
Charlie Quite. So, I think I’m going to play it safe, and buy a savings bond.
Liz What are the interest rates like at the moment?
Charlie Well, the best I could find is a fixed rate of 7% for a five-year bond.
Liz I guess that’s not bad. But inflation is over 4% now, so in real terms, you’re not getting that much.
CharlieYeah – it’s not great, but I don’t think I’ll find anything better…
